2007 Honda CR-V

The third generation of Honda's first SUV (and a crossover at that) turns on the charm with lots of luxe appointments (CD/MP3 player, ABS, side air bags, power everything) and highly styled new sheetmetal in order to attract young buyers and empty nesters. You might say it's made for entry- and exit-level buyers, unapologetically missing the performance crowd in between, since there's no V-6 and no manual gearbox. The 2.4-liter four has 166 hp and a flatter torque curve, and it works through a refined five-speed automatic. An improved suspension provides a carlike ride and handling, and if you stick with two-wheel drive, you can see 30 mpg on the highway. Three trim levels cover all wallets, with base prices ranging from $20,395-$25,400.
