The "Sport" in this new Equinox model refers mostly to the insertion of GM's 3.6-liter variable-valve-timing 3.6-liter V-6 into its compact SUV. The DOHC unit makes 263 horsepower - a healthy 42% more than the base engine - and promises 0-60 times in less than seven seconds. The Equinox Sport comes with a six-speed manu-matic transmission in either two- or four-wheel drive formats.

The Equinox Sport has revised, "performance-tuned" suspension, including re-valved shocks, larger, solid antiroll bars, and springs that reduce the ride height by about an inch. Sport models can be spotted by their eighteen-inch wheels and body-colored front and rear fascias with silver air intakes and dual chrome trapezoidal exhaust outlets.

Inside, the Equinox Sport has uniquely bolstered seats, a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel, an exclusive J-Gate shifter, and standard Ebony trim.

The 2008 Equinox Sport should begin trickling into Chevrolet dealers in the fall of 2007.
