If the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe seems overpriced at $405,000, consider the fact that the first U.S. car sold for $2,000,000 at a recent auction in Naples, Florida. The waitlist for this car is already sold out and that massive bid, which happens to be the highest for any new car ever sold in America, was the price to leapfrog the list of exclusivity.

Looking at the DHC, it has more in common with luxury yachts than most cars, with every unpainted surface covered with wood, chrome, or baby-soft leather. All that wood-thirty pieces just for the rear deck that covers the convertible top-is taken from just one tree, and can take up to one month to match and prepare. In all, 350 man hours are spent building just one of these Rollers.

Its overall look is similar to that of the Phantom limousine, but menacing LED headlights make the convertible all the more sinister as they sit below the optional stainless steel hood. Power comes from the same 6.8-liter V-12 as the four-door, and the 453 hp mill will waft the Drophead up to sixty in just 5.7 seconds. We've heard that it runs not on gas, but on melted diamonds. The only emissions are Pellegrino and the smell of caviar.
