Unveiled at the Bologna Motor Show on December 4, Volvo's replacement for its V40 goes on sale in North America during the summer of 2004 as a 2005 model. Like the S40 sedan, unveiled at this year's Frankfurt show, the V50 will offer a choice of two in-line five-cylinder engines: a normally aspirated 2.4-liter unit producing 168-horsepower and a 2.5-liter 218-horsepower light-pressure turbo, each available with an electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: The 2004 North American International Auto Show opens to the public on Saturday, January 10, and runs through Monday, January 19. Be sure to visit automobilemag.com for the latest news from the show floor in beautiful downtown Detroit.
