1 What is it?
A two-door version of the A4, available as either a coupe or a convertible. The A5 retains the A4's wheelbase in order to make the rear seat habitable for adults. Like its sedan sibling, the A5 will also be available in S and possibly RS trim.
2 What's under the hood?
Motivation will come via a turbocharged 2.0-liter four; a 265-hp, 3.2-liter V-6; a 340-hp, 4.2-liter V-8; or the RS4's even more potent 420-hp V-8. A redesigned transaxle (incorporating a more compact clutch and differential) allows the engine to sit farther back than it does in today's A4, trimming the front overhang and allowing for better weight distribution.
3 Any other goodies?
All-wheel drive, a dual-clutch DSG transmission, and Delphi's MagneRide magnetic dampers will be on the options list.
4 How much?
Audi will ask more than a BMW 3-series but less than a Mercedes-Benz CLK.
5 When's it coming?
The coupe debuts in 2007; the softtop in 2008.
