Hummers are an icon. Their buyers see them as a symbol of strength, freedom, and the American way - others think they're wasteful road-hogging monstrosities. Whatever side you are on, the new Hummers aren't likely to change your mind.

The primary upgrade for the H2 and H2 SUT is a bigger engine. The 6.2-liter V-8 is rated at 393 horsepower, an increase of 68 hp over last year's model. A power bump that big should increase performance numbers noticeably, and the six-speed automatic transmission's revised gearing will - slightly - improve fuel economy. The new powertrain allows the H2 to tow up to 8200 pounds, 1700 pounds more than last year's truck.

The interior has been given an upgrade as well. Passengers will find a new instrument panel, new seats, new trim pieces, and new entertainment systems.

H2's little brother, the H3, hasn't been left out. The new Alpha model puts a V-8 into the H3 for the first time. The 5.3-liter engine delivers 300 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque, which is up from the standard H3's 242 hp and 242 lb-ft. The Alpha model also comes with special gearing, a luxury package, sixteen-inch chrome wheels, and unique badging.

You can also choose the H3 X, which includes a collection of chrome Hummer accessories to make your ride standout.

We expect pricing slightly above last year, when the Hummer H2 started at about $55,000 and the H3's base price was about $30,000.
