After the wild comes the mild. Chevrolet is following up its Cobalt SS Supercharged (pictured) with a normally aspirated Cobalt SS. Whereas the supercharged car is a hard-core sportster with a 2.0-liter engine that spins out 205 hp, the lesser SS is a milder, less expensive offering powered by a larger, 2.4-liter four. It doesn't have a blower, but it does get variable valve timing, which helps it make 171 hp. Buyers can choose a manual or an automatic transmission. A sport suspension and seventeen-inch wheels are standard. Unlike the coupe-only supercharged car, the regular SS can be had as either a two-door or a four-door.
