2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP

By Mark Gillies

The Solstice is a fine first effort at a small roadster, but aside from a lamentable lack of stowage space and a cheap interior, our chief criticism is that it is too heavy for the 170 hp available from the 2.4-liter in-line four-cylinder engine. So we're pleased to see that Pontiac has announced a 2.0-liter turbocharged version that makes 260 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, enough to produce 0-to-60 mph times of less than 5.5 seconds. The GXP also features a standard limited-slip differential, anti-lock brakes, and Stabilitrak skid control, as well as a sport tuned suspension. Wheel sizes are the same as the stock Solstice, but a more aggressive performance tire will be available--a good thing, because the base Solstice's all-season tires aren't up to the capabilities of the chassis.
