Pricing Announced for 2009 Hyundai Genesis Sedan

By Evan McCausland

Although the 2009 Hyundai Genesis is a handsome car in its own right, we're betting the "bang for the buck" quotient will make it even more attractive to luxury car shoppers. Hyundai announced today that its flagship sedan will sticker at an even $33,000, including a $750 destination charge.

Thirty-three large puts buyers into a Genesis equipped with a 290-hp, 3.8-liter V-6 and a six-speed automatic sourced from Aisin. Although the car carries no options, that base price includes tons of goodies, like 17-inch alloys, front- and rear-side airbags, side curtain airbags, foglamps, leather seats (with heaters for the front pair), keyless unlocking and ignition, XM satellite radio (including 3 months of service) - and a lot more.

Those hankering for a bit more power and luxury may opt for the 375-hp, 4.6-liter V-8 in their Genesis, also triggering the addition of a six-speed automatic sourced from ZF. The V-8's asking price of $38,000 includes everything on the V-6 car's equipment list, but adds 18-inch wheels, leather door inserts, a sunroof, 15-speaker surround sound, illuminated door sills, wood-trimmed steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers and a power rear sunshade.

That's a lot of content for the price - especially considering the V-6 Genesis, sized closer to a BMW 5- or 7-series sedan, costs as much as a base 328i sedan. We doubt 3-series buyers will cross-shop the Genesis anytime soon, but its price tag may make a number of consumers think twice about a Hyundai.
